Traditional herring Hamburg style


  • 3 medium size light salted herring fillets
  • 1 large tomato
  • 0,25 large onion
  • 0,5 large sweet red apple
  • 0.25 cup of \"remoulade\" sauce
  • 150 grams cream
  • 0,25 bay leaf
  • a few juniper berries
  • 10 pickled gherkins (sweet or spicy)
  • 2 tablespoons cucumber marinade
  • 0,5 teaspoons dried dill or 1 bunch of fresh dill, chopped
  • pinch of black pepper

Preparation method (receipt)

Slice finely herring fillet . If herring is too salted, soak it in cold water for about an hour. Tomato cut into halves and take out pulp with seeds, slice. Slice peeled apple in the same way as tomato. Chop gherkins. Peeled onion cut into quarter-circles. Mix cream, cucumber marinade, \"remoulade\" sauce, dried dill and fresh dill, ground juniper berries, black pepper, onion, apple, tomato and gherkins in a large bowl. Dress herring pieces with received cream and take it to the fridge for 1-2 hours.
